Layer Blend Modes
Added in v1.2.10Blend controls how the selected layer mixes visually with the layers behind it without changing its position or depth.
Blend modes
Blend changes how the selected layer mixes visually with the layers behind it. It does not move the layer or change its Position/Z depth.
Use Blend when a layer should behave more like light, shadow, texture, contrast or a deliberately stylized graphic treatment. The best mode depends heavily on the source artwork underneath it, so compare modes against the same scene rather than judging them in isolation.

| Family | Modes | Typical visual use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Normal | Default layer appearance |
| Lighten | Additive · Screen · Color Dodge | Glow, light, highlights and bright overlays |
| Darken | Multiply · Color Burn | Shadows, dark textures and deeper color integration |
| Contrast | Overlay · Soft Light · Hard Light | Contrast shaping, texture integration and color interaction |
| Difference | Difference · Exclusion · Negative | Experimental, inverted and graphic treatments |
| Mode | Typical result |
|---|---|
| Normal | Shows the selected layer with standard compositing |
| Additive | Adds bright values together; useful for glow or light effects |
| Multiply | Darkens the result and lets lighter areas recede |
| Screen | Lightens the result more softly than Additive |
| Overlay | Combines darkening and lightening to increase contrast |
| Soft Light | Adds softer contrast and color interaction |
| Hard Light | Adds stronger contrast and color interaction |
| Color Dodge | Pushes highlights aggressively for intense luminous results |
| Color Burn | Deepens darker tones for strong shadow or color-density effects |
| Difference | Emphasizes color differences for inverted / high-contrast graphic results |
| Exclusion | Produces a softer, lower-contrast difference-style result |
| Negative | Creates a deliberately inverted / negative-style treatment |
